Our little guy is two years old already. He brings so much joy to our lives! Every day he comes out with a new phrase that makes us chuckle, or full out laugh. Here are some of the things he loves right now.
Isaiah loves our trips to the library. If we are walking downtown Georgetown he will anxiously ask if we are going to the library next. When we get there he runs to the children’s corner and finds books to pull out. One by one he brings them to me and asks me to read to him. We probably read 20 books each time we are there, and then decide which ones to bring home. Sometimes we go to drop-in story time… he loves it too!
Recently Jon led worship and led the song “Like A Lion” by David Crowder. I had no idea how much of it Isaiah was taking in until we were driving home from church… and I heard him singing the entire song! For the next few days it was totally stuck in his head because he was singing it alone in his room, in the bathtub, in his high chair. “My God’s not dead, He’s surely alive and He’s living on the inside, roaring like a lion. Let heaven roar, and fire fall, come shake the ground with the sound of revival”.
Over the past few weeks Isaiah has started to learn how to skate. Well he skated a bit last winter but it was on bob skates and he was pretty much completely held up by other people. He has loved it so far! The arena near our house has Saturday morning preschool skate time on the leisure pad. It’s great to have a small space just for this purpose. One of the parts Isaiah loves is taking a break to watch the kids on the rink beside us. The first couple weeks he was more excited about the idea of skating than really weight bearing. But the last time he went out he was shuffling his little feet and learning to stand up on his own.
Isaiah’s love for hockey maybe took a bit of a back burner for a few months but is back in full swing! A few weeks ago he got to go see Daddy and Uncle Darrell play their ice hockey game. He sat eyes glued to the ice watching intently. He looked rather serious, just taking it all in. Well since he has come home he’s barely put down his hockey stick. He loves to play constantly. His favourite is when someone will play with him, but he sometimes says “I play hockey by myself”. Sometimes he plays alone and commentates for himself “he shoots, hits the boards. Ohhhh.” Sometimes he asks me to cheer for him “Mommy, I can play hockey, you can cheer for me?” Since that game he has caught on that shirt colour represents the team you play for. So when he gets dressed in the morning he says “today I’m on the orange team Mommy?” Suddenly solid coloured shirts are his favourite because they most closely resemble a team.
Over the past few weeks Isaiah has been learning his letters. So far he knows “D”, duh for Daddy, “M”, mmmm for Mommy, “I” for Isaiah, and “B”, bbb for Brielle. The other day we walked into the mall parking lot and he looked up and pointed to a sign and said “look mommy, it’s B for Brielle”! It amazed me that he could pick it out.
Jon likes to sing both national anthems with Isaiah sometimes. Recently he was singing Oh Canada and as he was finishing with “Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee…” Isaiah interrupted him and said, “no Daddy, Mommy says not to stand on the garden”.
Recently Brielle was taking a nap and Isaiah was in my room with me. Brielle started waking up and we heard her through the monitor, talking. Isaiah got the monitor, started pushing the buttons and said, “Mommy, I’m texting Bi-elle”.
Isaiah is tender to his sister. Lately if she is crying he will come into the room with her and say “Bi-elle, it’s okay, i’m right here”. Today I put them in their car seats and she was crying. He said “Bi-elle, sweetheart, it’s okay. Look outside!” He was trying to share his strategies for long car rides with her.
Isaiah you are so much fun! Your enthusiasm, your energy, your conversations. You amaze me daily with the things you are learning. I love seeing you take in the world. I love seeing you love the people that I love. You are amazing. I can’t wait to see all that God has for you!
