Isaiah’s birthday weekend

Isaiah’s birthday weekend was full of celebrations. On Saturday he had a party with a bunch of his “little friends” and then on Sunday we had family over. We decided to break it up so we could fit in the apartment and so that he wouldn’t be too overwhelmed. We went with a Little Blue Truck theme since that is his absolute favourite book right now. It’s full of animal sounds and a truck– what more could he want?! DSC_5296Photo wall of Isaiah’s monthly photos- birth to twelve months. So fun to see how he grew and changed over his first year!

A friend helped me to make a Little Blue Truck out of cardboard as a little photo booth. Isaiah loved it!!! Grandma caught wind of took it upon herself to find the animal balloons to stick out the top, like the animal out the top of the truck in the book. She came over to drop them off before the party; Isaiah was thrilled with the balloons!

DSC_5265We bought a kiddie pool and filled it with small balls as balls of any kind are Isaiah’s favourite right now! He seemed to have a great time playing in it; by himself before anyone arrived and also with the kids once the party started.

DSC_5280DSC_5270His cupcake was the first thing he’d tasted that was anything like this. He doesn’t eat gluten, dairy or sugar yet so this was a whole new experience. I made beet chocolate cupcakes with a bit of honey (gluten free). I thought they were delicious! And he definitely loved it. After his first bite his response was “mmmmm”. He went on the devour the whole thing.

DSC_5306DSC_5310All of his friends have heard about his love for books so that was the common theme amongst the gifts. Isaiah was so happy to even look through the books as he opened them (although he was much too distracted to hear the story).

Sunday was equally as much fun; the adults were also great playmates.

DSC_5349DSC_5386Isaiah was asleep when people arrived so we had a bit of time to squeeze in a game of Seven Wonders.

DSC_5346When he woke up he was ready for the party to begin.

DSC_5393Isaiah talked to relatives from afar on facetime as he opened their presents. Here he is chatting with Annika about the train she and Ezekiel gave him.

DSC_5398He also got to Facetime with Nana and Aunt Kristin as he opened their birthday gifts. The guitar and the Thomas train were both a big hit!

Daddy read Little Blue Truck to everyone since it was a Little Blue Truck party.

Birthday morning breakfast

Isaiah’s birthday this year fell on a Wednesday. Wednesday’s are Isaiah and my days alone. Jon leaves early in the morning and gets home long after Isaiah is in bed (combination of work and volunteering with the boys program at church). We were sad not to get any time all together as a family on his birthday. So my mom had the great idea to cancel one hour with Jon’s first family, stay home a bit longer, and have a special birthday breakfast with my parents. We had a great little morning celebrating our little man!

DSC_5187The breakfast menu included Isaiah’s favourite fruits… watermelon, oranges and grapes. He also devoured scrambled eggs, made with coconut milk instead. He didn’t mind! He loved them! DSC_5192On Isaiah’s birthday morning he woke up with this cheezy smile. Who told him this was a funny one year old trick? Every time we got the camera out these were the pictures we were getting. It sure did provide us with some good laughs. It took a bit more creativity to get a few photos with his eyes open.DSC_5194DSC_5196Jon and I got to give him our gift first thing on his birthday. He was so excited to open it and quite interested in playing with it, considering how distractable he is at this age.

Nothing quite like having four adults playing circus along with you

The morning ended quickly when everyone needed to get going to work and Mommy and Isaiah had an appointment. But it was a fun morning spent celebrating our little man.

Isaiah’s twelve months– He’s one now!

He’s one!!! Can it really be true? My baby is a toddler. It continues to be amazing to watch him grow and change; become more independent and proud of his new skills every day. DSC_5221Isaiah’s new skills and milestones this month include:

1- He started signing “please”. I was at Mom and Dad’s and Dad was on his way out of the house; Isaiah was in the high chair. Dad looked over and said “he’s wiping his hand on his shirt”. And there he was, signing please. So rewarding when I’ve been signing it to him for what seems like forever. Next one we are focusing on; thank you.

2- Isaiah’s favourite things to play with Daddy is hide and seek. Since before he was eleven months Jon will go to one of three default places in the house and call Isaiah’s name. Isaiah excitedly crawls around looking for him. And when he finds him, Jon always says, emphatically “you found me!!!” And Isaiah giggles the proudest little giggle. The only problem with this game is that now when Jon is not in the house Isaiah will crawl to these three places to see if they are playing the game or if Daddy really is gone.

3- books. How much can we say about books? Isaiah is COMPLETELY addicted to books. He will crawl over to his books basket, pull all the books out, and then sit in the pile of books and look at them, sometimes for an hour at a time. Periodically during that hour he will crawl to me, pushing a book along his way and grunt/ groan at me until I read it to him. He loves our reading time before naps and before bed. And he always cries when after 5, 6, or 14 books we say “all done reading Isaiah”.

DSC_5233 DSC_5239 DSC_52414- Isaiah’s vocabulary has exploded in the past month. Of course he’s been saying “mama” and “dada” for a while, but at the beginning of the month he started attempting to say Grandpa– “bapa”. Another that he often said was Ezekiel (his cousin) whenever we look at the pictures on the fridge– “Eeeee- zzzzzzzz”. Saying Annika (another cousin) quickly followed “annnn-ta”. I feel like now I’m losing count of the words he attempts to say but they include, amen, all done, the end, egg, please, beans, apple, applesauce, Beckam, and Grandma.

5- Isaiah is always on the move! The photos below were my attempt to take birthday photos of him. After trying and trying to capture him on his own, I thought I had a great idea and would just give him the balloon. But as fast as it was in his hands it was back out and he was on his way, chasing it. Hence the photos we ended up with.

Isaiah- you are one year old already! It’s been an amazing and exciting year. We all survived the first year together. We are SO happy to have you as a part of our family. One year ago you made us a Mommy and Daddy. And it’s been an amazing journey of learning more about who we are and who you are and what our little family is. Thank you for being patient with us as we learn and grow together. We love you so much!!

More posts to come with his birthday celebrations, both on his birth DAY and the weekend that followed.
